Over the past few weeks we have been learning about the life of Irish explorer Tom Crean. We started by analysing photographs from his life and expeditions and formed our own theories about what we thought might have happened to him. Then we read about Crean's life, and created a timeline, ordering the most significant moments in his life chronologically. We also did some drama based on the themes that emerged from our lessons, and wrote a biography about Tom Crean. These activities integrated with geography and science also, as the children learned about continents, the Antarctic, emperor penguins, and experimented with melting and freezing solids and liquids.
